The Virginia Department of Transportation traffic center in Staunton worked late to keep an eye on road conditions Friday night.

VDOT is reporting an average of 70 to 100 accidents throughout the state.

Some of them were on Route 11 in the Raphine area. In Rockbridge County, a tractor trailer jackknifed in the middle of Interstate 81 but is now clear.

Most accidents are reported as minor like cars sliding off the roads and fender benders. Traffic is moving at a slow and steady rate on most routes.

"With it being the first major storm we've had this winter, you still have some folks that are inexperienced or haven't rebuilt their confidence driving in the snow, but overall, it looks like things are going pretty well," says Staunton District officer Vernon Hoke.

Drivers with any issues on the road can call 511 if they are in need of assistance.
