Prince George's County police say an off-duty Alexandria sheriff's deputy exchanged gunfire with a burglary suspect he saw climb out of a window of a neighbor's house in Oxon Hill.
Alexandria Sheriff Dana Lawhorne says neither the deputy nor the burglar was struck in the exchange Sunday morning on Addison Drive.
Police say someone alerted the deputy to a break-in at his neighbor's home and he found the men leaving through a window. Police say one of the men fired in the deputy's direction and he returned fire, then took cover and called 911.
Lawhorne says the deputy, whom he declined to identify, has been placed on routine, paid administrative leave.
