A meals tax being introduced in a Valley town could be good news for residents.
An ordinance for a meals tax will be discussed Tuesday night at the Broadway Town Council meeting.
The four-percent meals tax would start in February and take the place of the Rockingham County meals tax, which already passed and goes into effect February 1.
If the ordinance is passed, the revenue from the tax will stay in the town.
"As far as the meals tax, the four percent for Broadway that used to go to the county, sure that's great that it's going to go to Broadway now. So, if you've got to have the tax, at least this puts a good light on it," says Jim Townsend, a Broadway resident.
County Administrator Joe Paxton says the county expected Broadway to make its own tax once the county tax passed.
Broadway is the only incorporated town left in the county without a meals tax.

Let's impose a meals tax in Broadway so the town can use the money to put up some more ridiculous "decor" and take up more parking spaces with planters and bricks that scream "hit me!" and create obstacles and more frustration in finding places to park. I think I'll just have dinner at home, it will save my patience and wallet.
