The Waynesboro School Board may be taking some backward steps on a redistricting proposal.
School board chairman Jeremy Taylor says he's thought sleeplessly about parent's concerns on the changes.
Now he suggests re-evaluating the plan and holding off the redistricting until the 2011-2012 school year.
Others who still favor the plan recommend more research and work sessions but still want to push the plan through in the fall of 2010.
Sue Wright, Director of Instruction for Waynesboro Schools, has researched other schools that have gone through a redistricting.
"A surprise for us is that there was not a lot of research done on grade configuration at the elementary level K-2 and K-5. Most recent research says K-8 schools with students doing little transitioning is what is best," says Wright.
The board plans to revisit the redistricting plan at a closed meeting later this month.
