People in one of the Valley's most cash-strapped counties are being offered a way to get back on track.
It's a free, four-week money management workshop being held in the town of Luray.
"People here are struggling with no jobs. How do you feed your family? How do you take care of yourself with your income being cut so much," asks Sharon Sampsell, the cultural program coordinator for the Page County recreation department.
Sampsell put the workshop together. Each week, it highlights a different financial topic. Thursday night's first class took a look at the importance of credit scores.
"We're just going to try to help people understand how the lending process goes and what the lender looks at, and what we can determine from your credit score," says Terri Baker, a branch manager for the Partners First Federal Credit Union in Luray.
The workshop is a partnership between Partners First and the Page County Recreation Department.
Baker says next week's budget topic is a great place to start for those frustrated with their finances.
"What people really don't understand is, they think budget, and they think it's going to restrict, but it won't. It's actually going to free money up," says Baker.
Sampsell hopes more people will join the discussion.
"Please come and join with us as we try to work out our finances together," says Sampsell
