Some Virginia legislators want U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to reject the transfer the a German diplomat's son from a state prison to one in Germany.

Democratic former Gov. Tim Kaine requested the transfer in the final days of his term on behalf of Jens Soering.

Days after taking office, Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell wrote Holder this week opposing the transfer.

Soering is serving two life terms in Virginia for the 1985 stabbing deaths of his then-girlfriend's parents, Derek and Nancy Haysom, in Bedford County.

Elizabeth Haysom, his girlfriend then, is serving a 90-year sentence in a women's prison in her parents' slayings.

Soering and Haysom have unsuccessfully sought parole.
