Students Shed Locks for a Good Cause

A group of students at Plains Elementary School is making a donation to "Locks of Love," an organization that uses real hair to create wigs. Twenty-three girls and four adults stepped up to the clippers for the cause.

The event was part of an assembly to give students a lesson in citizenship. The teacher who organized it all even gave up some of her own hair. She says these girls are sending their peers a powerful message.

"It sent a phenomenal message of the importance of giving," says Tammy Shearer, a teacher at Plains Elementary. "A message that it's not what's on the outside on how we look, it's what's on the inside that's important."
