It's been open for less than two months, but it's already making a difference for the people in Broadway and Timberville.
The Plains District Community Center opened officially on May 23 with their open house. The building was donated to the area by Pilgrim's Pride and was completed in April. Workers at the center say they've been pleased with the turnout of people to the center. It houses a gameroom for younger people, a place for seniors to gather and the local chamber of commerce.
"The response has been overwhelming," says Cryustalk Collins, the center coordinator. "We had a really good turnout for our open house. We've gotten a lot of positive feedback from the community. They were wanting something like this."
The Chamber of Commerce says the exposure of being in the center has been particularly helpful in increasing interest in business in the area, and it hopes to use it to promote tourism as well.
