The state has suspended a Charleston bar owner's liquor license for defying Kanawha County's indoor smoking ban.

It's the latest of several run-ins that Kenny Ellison has had with authorities since the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department banned smoking in bars and gambling parlors in November 2007.

Alcohol Beverage Control Administration spokesman Gig Robinson says an undercover ABCA officer visited the Blackhawk Saloon Friday and saw employees and patrons smoking in the bar.

Ellison says the suspension of his license surprised him. If the ABCA reinstates the license, Ellison says he will stop allowing smoking in the bar.
