A well-known Elkton man is being held at the Rockingham County Jail on charges of intent to distribute a controlled substance and for having a hit list.

Early Tuesday morning, the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office searched Vernon Odell Crawford's home and two other buildings in Elkton.

According to court records, Vernon Odell Crawford's prior criminal history includes theft, grand larceny, assault, and conspiracy.

On Tuesday, officials arrested 63-year-old Crawford on three counts of distributing drugs and three counts of solicitation of murder for hire. Odell's wife, Joyce Crawford, was also arrested on one count of distributing drugs.

Both are being held at the Rockingham County Jail. The Rush Drug Task Force and other law enforcement obtained three search warrants.

Investigators searched the Crawford's residence on Rocky Bar Road where drugs, firearms, and vehicles were found. The second search warrant was executed at a building on Route 340, and the third was at Odell's Grocery in Elkton.

The Rush Drug Task Force seized three separate bank accounts from the Crawford's totaling more than $75,000.

With the three search warrants, investigators confiscated methamphetamine, 30 firearms, more than $27,000, four vehicles and several documents.

The task force is still investigating this case and will continue to use all the resources they have available to develop this case.

I wonder if the police even know for sure that they were dealing. If they had found a lot of drugs then it would have been plastered all over the news. I feel that all they found was a little more than what they would consider personal use. They have been trying to get O'dell for years on different stuff because he snubs his nose at the legal system. He doesn't even pay taxes on most of his properties. I don't think they'll get a fair trial even if they are innocent. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Everyone has already convicted them, even the judge who sent bond for Mrs. Crawford.
