A man from Elkton has been arrested on charges of having a hit list and distributing methamphetmine. Now people are speaking out.

Vern O'dell Crawford was arrested Tuesday morning, after police searched his home and another building near Elkton. They also searched "O'dell's" grocery store in Elkton.

Residents have mixed opinions about the case.

Benjamin Newell says, "I've never heard anything bad about the guy, but I've never heard anything good about him though."

Newell says he didn't shop at "O'dell's" too often.

"A lot of people that go there found food expiration dates, gone bad and what not, so I tend to stay away from that," says Newell.

One woman local woman says she knew the store to be a place where not many people visited.

She says, "You hear about him doing drugs in there, and you know, you hear about people bringing stolen items in there, you know. You don't want to shop in a place like that."

that's why she says she didn't frequent the store.

James Jackson: "And that's not the type of place you want to be associated with?"

She replies, "No! Like now, I want my face blocked out because God only knows if he's got connections and they might try to put a hit out on me. I'm not stupid."

Another resident, Mike Rankin, comments, "You hear all the negative things but you never hear about the good about somebody that's done something bad."

Rankin says he knows Crawford personally and believes he shouldn't be judged simply because he's facing charges.

He says, "He's been a good person. He's been good to a lot of people, but no one wants to say that now, you know. But I will. I'll say it, and it's always been true and it always will be true."

Tammy Wichael, since you worked there doesn't that make you a little guilty? If this was all going on, then were you selling to minors and trading foodstamps, because I've never really seen the owners there at the store, maybe they've arrested the wrong people , (people say the darndest things when they don't have a life for themselves).

i worked for odell and joyce for awhile i feel so bad for joyce. but i was wondering did they go in on there two sons?and why is the store still open i thought they said in the paper that they shut it down.so why is it still open?is it because the police took all their money!!(drug money)they dont get much business, only minors buying cigarettes and people trading foodstamps.

i am glad to see the law enforcement finally done something about this on going situation. now have they done anything about the foodstamp fraud? i have been in there the beginning of the month numerous times and seen people going in and out trading their foodstamps for cash or cigarettes, for years they have done this and i hope they get charges for that also.there are people out there that relly need help and cant get it because of people like that!and on the drug charges haha you get what you reap. i feel for joyce but she knows better.have fun in jail odell

Thanks for the support, Billie. To Bobby...I think this case will be "straightened out", if the definition of "straightened out" is 10-20 at a maximum security prison. Judges tend to frown on drug dealers, especially those that conspire to have people killed. I think Odell and Joyce WILL be out....1 hour per day for recreation.

LOL at Scott!! And, Bobby, you can see still seem, they'll have nice old iron bars in front of their faces! This has been going on for years, and I'm glad that they are finally off the streets and out of that store!! We don't need or want people like this in the Elkton community!!

They have done so many wrong things on this case and how they have taken it into there hands. Odell would do anything possible to help someone and always has. People just judge differently after something happens like this. I hope this is straightened up and hope to see Odell & Joyce out because I enjoy being in there company.

Gee, the way Mike puts it, good old Odell is the nicest drug dealer in Elkton. All of the nice people that I hang with DON'T sell drugs and have hit-lists. Guess there are suddenly 2 definitions of the word "nice". Think I will stay with my nice crowd.
