All through March, events will take place around Augusta County to promote literacy during the third annual Big Read.

This year's Big Read features the book "Fahrenheit 451," which will be distributed to schools, senior centers and even prisons.

The event is funded through a national grant.

Christiana Shields, from the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge, says, "These days, when we have a lot of bad news, it's nice to hear we have something that is bringing money into the community. It's bringing the community together, and we are all working towards literacy, which is a wonderful thing for our nation and our community."

The official Big Read kickoff is Wednesday at the Verona Fire Department at 6 p.m.
