Some Valley children learned life saving information today, and they had fun while they did it. The Harrisonburg Fire Department along with the Weed and Seed Program held a fire safety camp at the Harris Garden Apartments.
The Harrisonburg bicycle officers also came and spoke to the kids. The program included a model smoking house that the kids had to escape from. "We had some children who had been setting fires around the city in different city complexes, and we decides that we would work with the apartment complexes to make sure that we could stop these children from setting fires," said Wanda Willis, a fire prevention specialist with the Harrisonburg Fire Department.
In preparation for the Fourth of July, the Weed and Seed Program gave out noise makers as an alternative to fireworks.
