About 50 people urged the NFL to "Sack Vick" Friday in a demonstration outside the league's headquarters in New York City, following Michael Vick's indictment in Virginia on federal dogfighting charges.

The demonstrators were organized by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, based in Norfolk.

The leaders of the demonstration focused on league commissioner Roger Goodell's one-year suspension of Tennessee's Adam "Pacman" Jones under the NFL's personal conduct policy, although Jones has not been convicted of any crime.

PETA spokesman Dan Shannon says they think Goodell should "do the same" with Vick.

The NFL said that after Vick was indicted this week, it is watching legal developments in the case. Vick is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in federal court in Richmond.

The NFL began working with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals earlier this year on programs and public service announcements to educate players and the public on the importance of caring properly for animals.

Too bad that it takes circumstances like these for animal rights to receive attention. The people (and you KNOW who you are) that leave their dogs tied to a tree w/ a 5-foot leash may not be AS guilty as Vick...but you are not as far from it as you may think.
