A Senate committee known as the last stop for anti-abortion bills has killed two proposals.
On Thursday, the Senate Education and Health Committee rejected bills that would have required licensure and inspection of abortion clinics and demanded that doctors inform women considering an abortion of the likelihood of complications in future pregnancies.
Supporters argued both bills were needed to protect the safety of women. Opponents asked why the same precautions weren't made for
other outpatient medical procedures such as colonoscopies, plastic surgery or eye surgery.
Another bill to require women preparing to get an abortion to undergo an ultrasound and be given the opportunity to view it was passed by for the day, but likely will share the same fate because it has died in the past.
