Legal Same Sex Marriage in D.C. Good News for Valley Couple
As of March 2nd the District of Columbia is legally bound to grant marriage licenses to same sex couples. That's a couple hour drive on Route 66 to make a 23 year relationship into a legal marriage for one Staunton attorney and her partner.

As of March 2nd the District of Columbia is legally bound to grant marriage licenses to same sex couples.

For gay and lesbian people in the Valley, that means a couple hour drive to up Route 66 for make a union legal.

And that is what Staunton attorney Linda Royster, and her partner of 23 years, plan to do.

They were wed in a symbolic, but not legal, marriage on court square in Harrisonburg three years ago.

"It's an exciting opportunity to choose for ourselves what we all consider to be an important human right, and that is the right to choose who we will love and to have that love validated," said Royster on llegally marrying her partner.

Royster serves on the board for the Shenandoah Valley Gay and Lesbian Association, and works as a public defender.

I am a heterosexual female, and I think this is great. People oughta be able to marry the person that they love, regardless if its a same sex marriage or opposite sex marriage. Everyone deserves to be happy!

No need to pray for the happy couple. It sickens me to see religion used as a tool for hatred. It's gone on far too long! Congrats to this happy couple!
