Harrisonburg's new high school is going to cost more than expected, $1.5 million to be exact.
The school board had to pay $800,000 more than expected for the land. And after the original discussions, they added 30,000 square feet to the school.
That cost another $700,000. Mayor Joe Fitzgerald says he thinks the extra money's worth it. The school board will ask council for the money tonight.
But, council doesn't have to help them. They could give the school board less than $1.5 million or nothing at all.
"If we decide not to give them the money they will have to find a way to get it out of the construction project possibly by limiting how much they spend on athletic fields," Mayor Joe Fitzgerald says.
