The Wildlife Center of Virginia opened its doors and introduced its creatures to the public on Sunday. It was a rare look inside the center which serves as a hospital for injured or unwanted animals across the state.
During the event, people learned more about the center and the animals inside. Visitors also got a look at wild animals they otherwise would never see. "It is going to be hard to see a screech owl in the wild, or a bald eagle, especially in this area, in the wild. So, they're going to get to meet them and learn all about them," said Kelly Matherly, fundraising coordinator for the center.
Last year, the center cared for 2,500 injured animals. The tour will offer this free program for next four Sundays.
