The University of Virginia and Trout Unlimited are looking for volunteers to help collect water samples from Virginia's native trout streams as part of a study on the effects of acid rain.
More than 150 volunteers, chemists and biologists will fan out across the state's mountainous regions during the last full week of April. They will be taking samples from 458 stream sites in 34 counties as part of one of the nation's largest and most comprehensive trout stream surveys.
The university says the Virginia Trout Stream Sensitivity Study is designed primarily to track the effects of acid rain on water quality and related ecological conditions in Virginia's native trout streams.
Data and findings from the study will help guide national air pollution control policies.
