Lightning lit up the sky Sunday night and thunder and shook some houses in the Valley, but some strikes were too close for comfort.

A home on Rosedale Road in Harrisonburg was struck by lightning. The lightning hit the chimney, sending chunks of it through the ceiling of the duplex. The chimney cap ended up in the front lawn.

Fire crews were on hand to put up temporary plastic to cover the holes. Residents say they were very startled, but glad everyone is ok.
