State and local police will be patrolling the streets extra carefully on St. Patrick's Day, on the lookout for drunk drivers.
Harrisonburg Police received grant money for Wednesday's DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols.
Although they do not foresee any problems this St. Patrick's day, officials say they will have extra security in the city.
Harrisonburg Police Department spokesperson Mary Hope Vass says, "A lot of times people do like to celebrate more than they would on an average day and that's why we encourage people to do so in a responsible manner."
The Harrisonburg Police Department will have checkpoints set up throughout the city, but officials would not disclose those locations.
They say this is a citywide effort and they are not trying to target any specific individuals. They also say they are just keeping the streets safe.
State Police say they'll be normally staffed on St. Patrick's Day, but they expect to be busier than normal.
