City officials are re-focusing their attention on alleviating Harrisonburg traffic and they have one particular project in their sights.

The idea of an East West connector has been on the table for years in Harrisonburg. The project will connect Erickson Avenue with Stone Spring Road. Charles Chenault says that because the road crosses over I-81, the city is eligible for federal funding, something he says, is needed to speed up the process.

"I think that because of the importance of the project we need to do everything we can to try to speed things up and the thing that speeds it up is additional funding for it,” says Chenault.

With the new high school bringing more traffic on Garbers Church, Chenault says this project can not wait.
