The Winchester Planning Commission has approved a new 20 acre shopping center on Pleasant Valley Road. The development will include five major retailers and space for two new restaurants. Old Navy, Ross, Borders bookstore, and Michael's Craft Store are all on board for the project.
With the city growing faster than any other place in the valley, officials say Winchester is prime for this project and many more. "We see the opportunities of the population increase that's occurring in our area manifested in the new retail and businesses that are being developed," says Jim Deskins, Director of Economic Development for Winchester.
Many retailers already call Pleasant Valley Road home, so officials are keeping an eye on traffic in the area. They plan to add a new road that will cross Interstate 81, connecting Pleasant Valley Road with Route 522. Construction on the new shopping center should start soon and is scheduled to be complete by early next year.
