Officials in Augusta county say schools could lose $11 million from the budget.

The floor opened for members of the public to give their opinion on the proposed plans Thursday.

While some parents spoke in fear of the future, others used a more positive tone, thanking the board and school administration for their hard work.

The county is faced with possible furloughs and school closings in the near future.

"We have tried to stay away from salary reduction or participation of employees in benefit packages and up to this point, we have been able to do that, but the next round is going to be extremely difficult without going into some of those particular areas," says Augusta County Schools Superintendent Gary McQuain.

Numbers from the financial department are expected to be in Friday, with final budget meetings next week.
