After a snow-filled winter, vineyards in the Valley are starting to see more foot traffic as spring arrives.
While the snow kept people away this winter, owners of Afton Mountain Vineyards say it did not hurt the vines. In fact, they say it provided insulation, which can help them.
They spent the day Friday putting down sod and setting up outdoor porch furniture in preparation for the surge of people expected this weekend with the pleasant weather.
Afton Mountain Vineyards owner Elizabeth Smith says, "Being outside and being able to enjoy the scenery and the view, as well as good wine, is critical. You have to have the good weather to enjoy it."
The first ever Virginia Wiine Week starts March 22.
Participating businesses will be selling Virginia wines by the glass on their menus throughout the week.
