You've heard a lot in the news recently about a shortage of OB/GYNs in the area, even at RMH. You may have even heard the hospital might have to close its Family Birth Center. But hospital administrators want you to know that's not true.
RMH says it has been besieged with calls from expectant mothers, concerned they will have to travel to Augusta County or Winchester to have their children. But the hospital says even if all the OB/GYNs left, the Family Birth Center would not close.
"I would like to reassure the community that while the situation is serious, we continue to have a full, robust obstetrical unit at the Family Birthplace," says RMH Chief Executive Carter Melton. "We're committed to continuing that."
Four OB/GYNs have left Harrisonburg and Rockingham County since November, including one from RMH. Others are considering it because of high insurance premiums and Medicaid payments.
