Students from Virginia and four other states are putting their analytical and engineering skills to the test at a two-day robotics competition in Richmond.
More than 60 high school teams are competing Friday and Saturday at the FIRST Robotics Competition at Virginia Commonwealth University. The students will work with engineers, teachers and mentors to compete with their robotic creations.
One challenge is called "BREAKAWAY." In the game, teams will compete on a 27-by-54-foot field with bumps, earning points by guiding their robots to kick or herd soccer balls into goals.
The competition is also intended to encourage team-building and cooperation.
