A Valley community is taking back their neighborhood by putting children first.

Friday, the Weed and Seed program dedicated the First Baptist Church playground on Kelly Street in Harrisonburg. City officials were on hand as well as US Attorney John Brownlee who cut the ribbon. The area has been plagued by drug and gang activity and community leaders hope this will to curb the problem and give kids a safe place to play.

"We are going to make sure it stays that way, it stays a place for kids to play and we are not going to have any criminal activity going on here," says Harrisonburg Police Chief Don Harper.

"I am so overwhelmed at times, it brings tears to my eyes to see how the community works together and makes things happen," says Weed and Seed program coordinator Roberta Rogers. The Weed and Seed program also received $2000 from local law enforcement. The money was seized from criminals.
