Farmers Seeing More Green This Year

Next week is Virginia Farmer Market Week, but some local markets have had reason to celebrate all summer.

Strong crowds have been common at the farmer's market in Verona this year. Organizers say business has seen a 25 percent jump over last season.

This is the market's fourth summer in business. The market's master, Susan Randall, credits its growing success to word-of-mouth.

"We struggled through the first year or two," she said. "Now the word is out, and people come to us, because they're looking for a quality product, fresh from the farm."

The Verona Farmer's Market is open every Wednesday, through the end of October.

The farmer's market held every Saturday in downtown Staunton has also reported a significant sales growth this summer.
