It may have felt like a fall afternoon on Friday. But in downtown Staunton, it's still the dog days of summer.
Friday marked the start of the city's annual "Dog Days Sale" for stores downtown. Shoppers are invited to bring along their four-legged friends, to sniff out some bargains.
It's also a chance to make a difference, for animals that need it.
"We decided to make it a benefit for the SPCA," said Suzi Armstrong, owner of The Bookstack. "And at the same time that you're getting good bargains, you're doing something good for the animals in town."
Many stores, including Armstrong's, have boxes set up to collect donations for the SPCA. The Dog Days Sale continues through Saturday.
