The Rockingham County Fair wouldn't be possible without the help of its volunteers, and one volunteer has dedicated the last 71 years of her life organizing fair activities.
Ninety-four-year-old Libby Custer says the fair traveled from Linville-Edom High School, to Sam Giles farm, and eventually to the current fairgrounds.
The fair was dropped during the war years, but throughout all the years, Custer has been involved organizing the event.
One of Custer's biggest achievements was bringing air conditioning to the building at the fair.
"I think it's one of the highlights of an awful lot of people in Rockingham County," says Custer. "I think a lot of people look forward to the fair week, because we have a lot of exhibitors and all of our food booths, it's local."
Custer has been involved with the fair since 1936.
