More than 3,000 seniors at James Madison University walked across a stage Saturday and became alumni.

There were a total of six different ceremonies scattered across the college campus. Students were divided by schools and then separated by major.

University spokesperson Don Egle says dividing the schools not only makes the ceremony shorter but also more intimate for students and family. Graduate Kristina Mitchell and her family agree.

"The professor that announced my name, I had a class with this semester, and it's so fun that you get to sit with your major because I knew all the girls around me, and it was good," says Mitchell.

Why does JMU graduation have to be on Mother's Day Weekend? I would love, for once, to be able to take my mother and wife out to dinner on Mother's Day, without standing in line for an hour. Would it be ever so hard for JMU to move graduation a week either way? Who's with me on this one? And, please don't say "make a reservation", most places I would like to take them, don't have reservations.

I wonder if anyone was prevented from graduating because of riot involvement.
