A federal judge has decided not to temporarily stop JMU from cutting ten of its sports teams. Equity in Athletics was seeking a restraining order against JMU.

That would have temporarily stopped the school from cutting the sports teams, while EIA sought a permanent injunction. For now, the sports programs remain cut.

EIA attorney Doug Schneebeck says, "We're disappointed in the short run and this means that the athletes from the teams that were cut that have fall training or competition are out of luck for the fall semester."

He also says EIA has other options, and they are still deciding whether to appeal the judge's decision on the temporary restraining order.
