The NFL has indefinitely suspended Michael Vick without pay.
The news came just hours after Vick acknowledged in court papers that was involved in a dogfighting conspiracy and helping kill pit bulls.
Vick, however, insisted he placed no bets of his own nor took any winnings.
In disciplining Vick, commissioner Roger Goodell said Vick's admitted conduct was "not only illegal but also cruel and reprehensible."
Goodell said that regardless whether he personally placed bets, Vick's actions violated the NFL player contract.
Vick is scheduled to formally enter his plea Monday in U.S. District Court. He signed the plea agreement yesterday. Sentencing will be at a later date.
