I spoke to an owner of a dog training kennel in the Valley who served served as a professional witness in a dog fighting case.

"Actually when you train a pit dog, what they do is they reinforce the aggressive behavior in the dog," says Alayne Hartuniewicz. "They'll allow them to attack, and win or maul, younger or weaker animals and they get the feeling of being the superior alpha dog."

She trains puppies from birth to be hunting dogs, but it's nothing like the horror stories. "Probably a little bit of torture, unfortunately," says Hartuniewicz, speaking about how dogs have been mistreated. "I've heard stories of using gunpowder for ingestion, giving severe stomach problems, Tabasco sauce, beating. You never know exactly what's going on, but definitely it's got to be something negative to make a dog that aggressive."

She's even witnessed dog fighting herself, let alone served as a witness to it in the courtroom "In correlation with hunting, there is no other correlation, I do all of my training using positive reinforcement with treats, like good boy, good girl, you know, good affection," says Hartuniewicz. "So there is no correlation with that really."

When these pups are trained, she'll give them away to families, though not everyone qualifies for her beloved dogs. "She hasn't been named yet, her dad was a personal hunting dog and a champion," said Hartuniewicz about the puppy in her arms. "She's our future hopeful."

As far as pit bulls are concerned, the dog breeder says they've gotten a bad rap. She has no doubt that Vick's dogs were once mild and friendly mannered.

Aside from his suspension, Michael Vick also admitted to creating a betting ring for dog fighting, which caused him to lose his $130,000,000 partnership with the Falcons.
