More than 1,000 homes and businesses lost power Wednesday evening in Staunton.

Dominion officials say the outage was fixed in about 30 minutes, but that wasn't fast enough to prevent Wright's Dairy-Rite from closing early Wednesday.

During the outage, customers continued to pull in the parking lot, ready to eat, and Wright's owner Elwood Cash says he hated turning people away.

"Some of them didn't like it but there wasn't any thing we could do about it. That guy right there said, 'I was looking forward to a super burger,' and I said, 'Well you'll have to come back tomorrow,'" says Cash.

Dominion officials say an piece of equipment called an arrester failed, causing the outage.
