Riders took the course for the opening of the Valley Xtreme Sports Park, a vision brothers Terry and Doug Argenbright have had since 2005.

Doug says, "There are a lot of words. It's exciting and humbling."

Plans for the motocross park were almost denied after many residents claimed it would be a noise disturbance.

However, Augusta County supervisors approved the park, and now that it's been built, Doug says it's going to bring economic benefits to the Valley.

"It's already good for the economy just because of what we have done, purchasing products here, buying locally here," adds Doug.

Professional riders like Harrisonburg resident Tyler Gantt say there are only a few parks like this in the state, and it could be a big draw for the area.

Gantt says, "Everything around here, just everybody from all over will be coming to this place."

Doug adds, "Certainly we anticipate a lot of guests coming in. They'll be buying food, buying fuel and staying at the hotels. They'll visit other tourist attractions here."

Job creation will also be one of the park's benefits.

The Argenbrights will need staff, and Doug says a number of people have already expressed interest in applying.

He says, "That's exciting too, especially in today's economy, to be able to provide opportunities like that."

The park will not just be for motocross.

There are plans to have baseball fields, a paintball course and a mountain bike riding area in the future.

Race events are open to the public, but if you want to ride the course, you have to sign up as a park member.

WHSV Poll
A committee in the House of Delegates has sent a bill to the House floor that would allow private, faith-based adoption agencies to discriminate against prospective parents based on their sexual orientation. Would you support this?

Yes, I think if it is a private organization it's okay.
No, there should be no discrimination.
It should depend on a case by case basis.
