Officials say a teenage boy was injured when a fight broke out on the Metrorail platform at Union Station after someone tried to steal his shoes.
Metro says a large group started fighting on the platform around 1:15 p.m. Friday and one person was hurt. Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein says a realistic training firearm was found on the platform, but there was not a shooting as was initially reported.
D.C. Fire and EMS Department spokesman Pete Piringer says a teenage boy was in serious condition when he was taken to a trauma center from Union Station.
Metro rider Larry Barnes says about 30 teens began to fight as they got off the train. Angel Surratt says her 16-year-old son Tavon was injured in a fight over his new tennis shoes and taken to a hospital.
