The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded a $644,508 grant to coordinate the efforts of West Virginia's rape crisis centers.
Congressman Alan Mollohan announced the grant Tuesday.
Mollohan says the nonprofit West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information and Services in Fairmont will use the funding to hire rural advocates for rape crisis centers serving seven rural areas.
The foundation also will hire a statewide project coordinator to provide training and technical assistance.
Mollohan says the project will focus on awareness and prevention.
