Rescue missions, like the one in Madison County, pose many challenges for rescue teams, because of the vast, wooded areas, and mountainous terrain.

When normal sized vehicles can't be used, they have to search by foot, or rely on other means to find people lost in the area.

T.J. Robertson, a medic with the Staunton Fire Department says all-terrain vehicles are often the best bet.

He says, "So we're going to send someone in on foot to see if we can get to someone quicker if there is limited access to initiate the patient care, then hopefully we can get the patient loaded up and get them out quicker by the A.T.V. to the hospital."

Robertson says it doesn't matter how they get there, just as long as they do it in time to care for those in need.
