A certain type of home is seeing a dramatic increase in sales, while much of the housing market is just starting to recover.
Clayton Homes has seen a 22-percent increase in sales from this time last year, and it's a trend the company is seeing both on a national scale, and in the Valley.
Kim Rogers-Carter is just getting settled into her new home on which she closed Wednesday.
"First-time homeowner. My parents divided off some land, and we went house shopping," says Rogers-Carter.
Rogers-Carter says she went to Clayton Homes to check out the options with manufactured homes.
She says being able to pick options and have everything squared away was quick and easy.
"The prices were reasonable. I work two jobs, have two children, so it's difficult to start from the ground up and build a house," says Rogers-Carter.
Chris Nicely is a zone manager with Clayton Homes.
He says, because of the number of homes they build, which will be around 30,000 this year, they're able to offer more "bang for the buck."
"So the result is we're able to deliver more amenities in the same square footage or more square footage for a lower cost dollar to the consumer," says Nicely.
He says, as confidence grows with the economy and people begin looking at homes, affordable housing is an area that's seen some growth in recent months.
"The process can be faster. It can be less expensive, and certainly with an eye on the environment, it's done in a green process," says Nicely.
From energy efficient appliances to help with utilities to the convenience and price for the amount of space, Rogers-Carter says she's not surprised in this growing trend.
"The economy is slowly picking up maybe, but there's a lot of people out there struggling, too. So with manufactured homes and the way they're built, it's a good way to go," says Rogers-Carter.
The home builders say manufactured homes also create much less waste, just two trash cans for each home built, due to the use of recyclable materials.

becareful. we bought a Clayton Home in 2001, a nice 2120 sq.ft,I mean nice, and now with just 2 of us living in it. the kitchen floor has weak spots, the plumbing backs up, or just leaks,it has alot of problems.I would never buy another one.and the carpet stays wet, and is just nasty. and look out when you try to repair anything. it's poor quality ,looks good til it's used.
