HARRISONBURG, Va. - Friday is National Wear Red day to raise awareness for heart disease.
Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States, and one in three women dies from heart disease.
There are many things women can do to better understand their health. For instance, they can research their family history and also adjust their lifestyles.
Nurse Julia Alderfer Stauffer with the Womens Center in Harrisonburg also says to make sure you talk with your doctor more than once, if needed.
"Sometimes women's anxiety can be written off as it's just anxiety and I think we here at the women's center really want to promote listening to our intuition," Stauffer said.
Stauffer said what may seem like anxiety could instead be heart disease.
If you are interested in learning more about your heart health, there are a number of heart events for women in February through Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
