HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- The ACLU of Virginia is asking police around the state to change some of their policies.
In a letter, the ACLU wants police and leaders at jails to deny future requests from Immigration and Customs Officers.
The ACLU wants to prevent people in custody who would otherwise be free to be released.
They say problem is detaining people on Immigration and Customs Enforcement requests violates The Fourth Amendment.
Leaders also say police are not required to honor these requests and continuing to do so could impose unreimbursed costs on communities or leaders at local jails.
