A Group of College Kids Prepare for Haiti Trip

A local group of college kids are returning to Haiti after a year of fundraising and supply gathering.

The group is called “SIFE” or Students in Free Enterprise, and it’s a program at Blue Ridge Community College. Students involved in this program assess needs of the communities in Haiti. Then they return later to help those solve problems.

On the trip they take next week, they will help out the local Haitian economy by improving fishing boats.

One student describes her excitement for the upcoming trip.

“I have a lot of close friends who are in the club, and I’m hoping to get the same things that they got out of it. Total astonishment. The people there, they are really great people,” says Chelsea Shaff.

The group leaves on the 13th, and they will return after about a week.
