A Local Travel Agency Says Sunken Ship in Italy Won't Affect Sales

A local travel agency says the cruise ship that ran aground in Italy isn’t stopping anyone from taking an ocean-bound trip; even those who have already booked their vacations.

Even as the video of the cruise ship crash is played around the world, many local residents still plan on cruising soon.

A Harrisonburg travel agent with Earman and Associates says she’s already booked one-hundred cruises this year, and she expects that number to go up.

She says that no one has canceled their plans after this accident, and despite this tragedy, cruises are still one of the safest ways to travel.

“You’re in more danger on the streets of Harrisonburg than you are on a cruise line. Last year there were more than 10 million people who took a cruise. They are expecting it to reach 14-million people this year. Still one of the safest vacation options that’s available today,” said travel agent Cindy Jones.

Jones did suggest if you do go overseas, then it’s a good idea to make a copy of your passport just in case you lose it. This is an issue that many passengers of the sunken ship are dealing with right now.
