One Injured In I-81 Accident in Edinburg


SHENANDOAH COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- A tractor trailer accident in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 at the 279 mile marker injured one person and is causing long backups.

All after all being closed, now all of the lane are now open.

Initially the south left shoulder, left lane, right lane and right shoulder were closed. Just before 1:30 p.m., both the left shoulder and left lane were reopened. At 1:50 2 p.m., both the right lane and right shoulder reopened.

VDOT is also reporting that backups are about 10 miles long.

A detour has been established at exit 279. Drivers will use the off- and on-ramp to cross Route 185 and rejoin the interstate.

We are sending a crew to the scene and will update this story as soon as we have more information.
