Weyers Cave, Va. (WHSV) -- All flights to the Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport through United Airlines were canceled during the storm Thursday, and experts estimate that this winter has had the most flight cancellations in more than two decades.

Passengers, such as David Burke, are grateful business is taking off again. He was worried the weather would interfere with his travel plans.

"I'm so thankful to be here. I'm so thankful this is open," said Burke, who flew into SHD. "I kept up on things: text, e-mail, Internet, constant contact."

"This morning, Dulles was back to full strength, and all of our flights resumed fairly close to on time," SHD spokesman Greg Campbell said. "We had a couple minor delays, just because of system back-ups."

According to, more than 6,000 flights were delayed Friday, more than 5,000 in the U.S. Burke, who traveled from Boston to Dulles and then to SHD, was delayed in Washington, D.C. United Airlines offered travel waivers for passengers to rebook their flights for free, and some rescheduled for Saturday.
