Alleged Puppy Mill Owners Make First Court Appearance

PAGE COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- Page County sheriff's deputies charged the owners of an alleged puppy mill last week with more than 100 misdemeanor counts.

The Luray couple, Lennis and William Atkins, made their first court appearance on Thursday in Page County General District Court.

Investigators raided Millcreek Kennels on July 3, seizing 120 dogs and four parrots.

Animal Rescue Corps helped place the dogs with rescue groups and shelters up and down the Mid-Atlantic.

The couple faces misdemeanor charges of cruelty to animals and misdemeanor providing inadequate space for animals.

They are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 16 for an arraignment hearing.
