Friends, family and others who had the pleasure of knowing Andrea Lohr, the wife of Matt Lohr, are in mourning Sunday. Matt Lohr is the commissioner of agriculture and consumer services.
Andrea lost her battle with breast cancer Sunday morning.
Andrea was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, at the age of 31. She also served as the team captain for the Rockingham County Relay for Life recently. In a story aired on WHSV she said:
"...To be able to be surrounded by so many others who are battling this disease, it just gives such encouragement and support for what we're going through."
She's always been an active voice in the community. Hundreds are sending their thoughts and prayers to the Lohr family as they begin their journey of healing.
She leaves behind her loving husband, two children and countless other family and friends.
Local cancer groups are also reacting to this news. Annika Dean with the Harrisonburg American Cancer Society says the fight continues against breast cancer.
"i know that every day there are lots of researchers being funded by different organizations. The American Cancer Society being one of them. Where we are funding researchers and we just have to really be praying that we're getting closer."
Dean also says both new patients and survivors may benefit from programs at the Harrisonburg American Cancer Society that are available every day.
