Animals Rescued From Waynesboro Home

WAYNESBORO, Va -- Police raided a house on Red Top Orchard Road in Waynesboro where they found 19 dogs, a cat, and three birds living in filth.

"The dogs were in very poor condition, some of them were overweight, some of them had serious medical conditions, they had been neglected," Sergeant Brian Edwards with Waynesboro Police.
Some neighbors saw the raid as it took place on Wednesday afternoon.

"I come by here I see the dog warden and I see the police, I didn't know what was going on," says Roger Glass who lives next door,"I didn't think anything like this could happen in the neighborhood."

The animals were taken to Woodworth Animal Hospital were they are undergoing treatment.

"we've got a variety of obesity all the way down to being underweight," says Jennifer Miller who works at Woodworth Animal Hospital, "there is one that has a very large tumor another one has fluid on the abdomen and is very very underweight."

The couple who owns the house could face several hundred dollars in fines if charges are filed.

The house has since been condemned and the couple has 30 days to clean the house or they will not be allowed to return.

The animals will be up for adoption in a few weeks. If you interested in adopting one of the pets then contact the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center by calling (540) 943-5142.
